1. In Operation Grouse, the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) successfully placed four Norwegian nationals as an advance team in the region of the Hardanger Plateau above the plant in October 1942.

2. The numbers of those disappeared by the state over its history are staggering: North Koreans resettled to South Korea who then return to China and get caught and forced back to North Korea; the estimated 100,000 South Koreans taken into North Korea and disappeared after the Korean war; 11 South Korean nationals abducted in 1969 from a Korean Air flight hijacked and diverted to Pyongyang; South Korean fishermen taken on the high seas in the 1960s and 1970s, and foreign nationals from Japan, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Europe, and the Middle East who were kidnapped by North Korean agents and never seen again.

그동안 북한 정부에 의해 실종된 숫자는 엄청나다. 남한에 정착한 후 중국에 돌아갔다가 잡혀 다시 북한으로 끌려간 탈북자들도 있으며, 한국 전쟁 이후 약 100,000명의 남한 사람들이 북한으로 끌려가고 실종된 것으로 추정된다. 또한, 1969년 대한항공 여객기가 납치되고 평양에 강제 착륙되었을 때 11명의 남한 사람들이 납치되었고, 1960년대 및 1970년대에는 공해에서 남한 어민들이 납치되었다. 그리고 일본, 중국, 태국, 말레이시아, 유럽, 중동 출신의 외국인 중에도 북한 요원들에 의해 납치되어 아직 행방을 모르는 사람들이 있다.
