1. Whereas the volcanic arch of the Eolian islands is caused by subduction of the African below the Thyrrenean plate, in Turkey, the Arabian subducts below the Anatolian plate.

Während bei den Äolischen Inseln die Afrikanische unter die Thyrrenische Platte abtaucht, ist es in der Türkei die Arabische, welche unter die Anatolische subduziert wird.

2. Several countries in the Arabian Peninsula, just across the Red Sea from the Horn, are also showing an encouraging readiness to deploy their oil earnings for emergency relief and long-term development.

Ebenso ist es ermutigend, dass viele Länder der Arabischen Halbinsel auf der anderen Seite des Roten Meeres für Notfallhilfe und langfristige Entwicklung verstärkt bereit sind, ihre Ölreserven zur Verfügung stellen.

3. The MAREX ('Exploring marine resources for bioactive compounds: from discovery to sustainable production and industrial applications') project has received EUR 6 million under the 'Food, agriculture and fisheries, and biotechnology' (KBBE) Theme of the EU's Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) to collect, isolate and classify marine organisms, including sea anemones, tunicates and micro and macroalgae, from the Mediterranean, Baltic and Arabian Seas as well as the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Das MAREX-Projekt ("Exploring marine resources for bioactive compounds: from discovery to sustainable production and industrial applications") erhielt innerhalb des Themenbereichs "Lebensmittel, Landwirtschaft und Fischerei sowie Biotechnologie" (KBBE) des Siebten EU-Rahmenprogramms (RP7) 6 Mio. EUR. Aufgabe des Projekts ist es, marine Organismen einschließlich Seeanemonen, Manteltiere sowie Mikro- und Makroalgen aus dem Mittelmeer, der Ostsee und dem Arabischen Meer sowie im Atlantischen, Pazifischen und Indischen Ozean zu sammeln, zu isolieren und zu klassifizieren.
