9. + 17 They also made their sons and their daughters pass through the fire,+ they practiced divination+ and looked for omens, and they kept devoting* themselves to do what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah, to offend him.

10. What is more, “they continued to make their sons and their daughters pass through the fire and to practice divination and to look for omens, and they kept selling themselves to do what was bad in the eyes of Jehovah, to offend him.”

Còn tệ hơn nữa, “chúng cũng đưa con trai con gái mình qua lửa, dùng tà-thuật, tin bói-khoa, chuyên làm điều dữ trước mặt Đức Giê-hô-va, để chọc giận Ngài”.

11. Since learning this truth, many who were once shackled to superstitious rituals concerning the dead no longer worry about curses, omens, charms, and fetishes, nor do they offer costly sacrifices to appease their ancestors and prevent them from returning to haunt the living.

Nhờ học được lẽ thật này, nhiều người trước đây từng bị những nghi lễ mê tín về người chết trói buộc, nay không còn lo sợ về trù ẻo, điềm mộng, bùa ngải, và linh vật, cũng không còn phải dâng cúng tốn kém để làm hài lòng tổ tiên hầu không về quấy phá người sống.

12. + 10 There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire,+ anyone who employs divination,+ anyone practicing magic,+ anyone who looks for omens,+ a sorcerer,+ 11 anyone binding others with a spell, anyone who consults a spirit medium+ or a fortune-teller,+ or anyone who inquires of the dead.

+ 10 Trong vòng anh em, chớ nên có ai dâng con trai hay con gái mình qua lửa,+ xem bói,+ thực hành phép thuật,+ tìm điềm báo,+ làm thuật sĩ,+ 11 chớ nên có ai ếm bùa người khác, cầu hỏi đồng bóng,+ thầy bói+ hay người chết.
