इस दिन भारत से संविदा श्रमिक मारीशस में 2 नवंबर, 1834 को एम वी एटलस पर पहुंचे थे।

तदनुसार, तथा सलाहकार बोर्ड द्वारा नकारात्क सिफारिश के बावजूद वाहवाही के साथ इस साइट को शामिल किया गया जो भारत एवं मारीशस के लिए एक बड़ी जीत है तथा संविदा श्रम विरासत की अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पहचान के लिए भी एक बड़ी जीत है।

19वीं शताब्दी से, हमारे अनेक देशज बंधु भारत मां के तटों को छोड़कर चले गए, जिनमें से अधिकतर संविदा के श्रम के रूप में गए और अफ्रीका, मॉरीशस तथा कैरेबियन, सूरीनाम और फिजी जैसे दूर-दराज के क्षेत्रों में भारत की जड़ों को स्थापित किया।
