In der Lade selbst befanden sich die vom Finger Gottes beschriebenen Tafeln mit den Zehn Worten und später auch noch ein goldenes Gefäß mit etwas Manna vom Himmel sowie der Mandelstab, der Zeugnis davon abgelegt hatte, daß Gott das Haus Aarons für das Priestertum in Israel auserwählt hatte.
