2. In its resolution 1493 (2003), which imposed the arms embargo on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Security Council instructed me to deploy MONUC military observers in North and South Kivu and in Ituri and to report to the Council regularly on information concerning the supply of arms, especially by monitoring the use of airstrips in that region.

In seiner Resolution 1493 (2003) vom 28. Juli 2003, mit der das Waffenembargo über die Demokratische Republik Kongo verhängt wurde, wies mich der Sicherheitsrat an, Militärbeobachter der MONUC nach Nord- und Südkivu sowie nach Ituri zu entsenden und dem Rat regelmäßig über Informationen im Zusammenhang mit Waffenlieferungen Bericht zu erstatten, insbesondere durch die Überwachung der Nutzung der Landebahnen in dieser Region.
