In this case it means rejecting ownership of oneself in favor of ownership by Jehovah God.

Also not to be discounted is the insidious influence of Jehovah God’s enemy, Satan the Devil.

It is reasonable to believe that Jehovah God informed Adam of this account of creation.

“With regard to the nature of Baal and Astharte worship, . . . it is evident from the more precise allusions contained in the history of Gideon, that it did not consist of direct opposition to the worship of Jehovah, . . . but that it was simply an admixture of the worship of Jehovah with the heathen or Canaanitish nature-worship.”

42. 우리의 창조주이시고 생명의 근원이신 여호와 하느님이 “실제로 죽음을 영원히 삼켜 버릴 것”이라고 약속하십니다.

Our Creator, Jehovah God, the Source of life, promises that “he will actually swallow up death forever.”

43. 이 시험으로써 그분은 신성 통치자인 여호와 하나님께 대해 절대 깨어질 수 없는 성실을 증명하셨읍니다.

He thereby proved his absolutely unbreakable integrity to Jehovah God as the Divine Ruler.

It is also good to meditate regularly on all of Jehovah God’s abundant provisions, spiritual and material.

Now they understood that these deep-seated desires were actually a reflection of the qualities of the Creator, Jehovah God.

48. 하지만 그들이 모든 반석 가운데 가장 위대한 반석이신 여호와 하느님을 신뢰한다면 참으로 훨씬 더 좋을 것입니다!

How much better, though, if they would trust in the greatest Rock of all, Jehovah God!

49. 시편 필자는 이렇게 말한다. “오 너희 의로운 자들아, 여호와 안에서 기뻐하고 그분의 거룩한 기념에 감사를 드려라.”

The psalmist says: “Rejoice in Jehovah, O you righteous ones, and give thanks to his holy memorial.”

50. 또한 이로써 그 분은 “주”이시며 여호와 하나님의 다스림의 수석 대행자라는 것이 의문의 여지 없이 증명되었읍니다.

It was also unmistakably proved thereby that he was the “Lord,” the Chief Agent of Jehovah’s divine rulership.

51. 그들이 개인적인 의견이나 취향에 따라 심판한다면 그들은 최고 심판관 여호와 하나님으로부터 불리한 심판을 받게 될 수 있다.

For them to rely on personal opinion or preference could lead to their being judged adversely by the Supreme Judge, Jehovah God.

52. 11 여호와 하나님께서 용서해 주시는 기초는 그분께서 매우 큰 값을 치르시고 마련하신 것이라는 사실을 망각해서는 결코 안됩니다.

11 Never should we lose sight of the fact that the basis on which Jehovah God grants forgiveness was provided by him at great cost to himself.

53. 이 염소를 여호와 앞에 세웠다는 사실은 필시 그분이 이러한 가치 또는 속죄 효력의 이전을 인정하셨음을 시사할 것이다.

The fact that it was presented before Jehovah evidently indicates that he recognized this transfer of merit or sin-atoning power.

54. 여호와 하나님께서 우리를 만드실 때, 우리가 어떤 기능을 상실하더라도 그것을 보충할 수 있도록 놀랍게 만드셨다는 것을 알면 감탄하게 된다.”

It is amazing to see how Jehovah God made us in such a wonderful way that we can compensate for some loss.”

55. ‘이사야’가 가로되 주[여호와]여 우리의 전하는 바를 누가 믿었나이까 하였으니 그러므로 믿음은 들음에서 나며 들음은 그리스도의 말씀으로 말미암았느니라.

In turn the thing heard is through the word about Christ.

56. 예를 들어 많은 사람들은 예수 그리스도와 그분의 아버지이신 여호와 하느님, 이 두분의 관계에 대해 혼동하고 있으며 눈이 멀어 있습니다.

Many, for example, are confused or blinded as to the relationship between Jesus Christ and his Father, Jehovah God.

57. 성서에서는 여호와 하느님께서 ‘사람을 지배하여 해롭게 하는 사람’을 승인하지 않으신다는 점을 분명히 밝히고 있는데, 여기에는 가혹한 노예 제도가 포함될 것입니다.

The Bible makes it clear that Jehovah God does not approve of ‘man dominating man to his injury,’ and this would include abusive slavery.

58. “너는 여호와 네 하나님의 성민이라 네 하나님 여호와께서 지상 만민 중에서 너를 자기 기업의 백성으로 택하셨[느니라.]”—신명 7:6.

It is you Jehovah your God has chosen to become his people, a special property, out of all the peoples that are on the surface of the ground.” —Deuteronomy 7:6.

59. 예수 그리스도의 제자가 된 사람들은 여호와 하나님께서 자기 아들과 관련하여 행하신 일을 다른 사람들에게 전해 줄 책임을 받아 들였읍니다.

Those who became disciples of Jesus Christ accepted the responsibility of telling others about what Jehovah God had done in connection with his Son.

60. 8 여호와 하나님께서는 우리가 기계적으로 행동하는 사람이 되어 어떤 감정도 가지고 있지 않거나 나타내지 않는 사람이 되기를 기대하지 않으십니다.

8 Jehovah God does not expect us to be automatons, so that we neither have nor manifest any emotion.

61. 이 경우, 최고 재판관이신 여호와 하느님은 자신의 백성 사이에서 있게 될 이후의 모든 사법상의 소송 절차를 위한 본보기를 보여 주셨다.

Jehovah God the Supreme Judge here set the pattern for all further judicial proceedings among his people.

62. 이 판결로 인해 그 형제의 세 자녀는 여호와 하느님이 베푸시는 유익한 교훈과 인도를 아무 제약 없이 받을 수 있게 되었습니다.

The ruling gives the children the right to unrestricted access to Jehovah God’s beneficial instruction and guidance.

63. 흥미롭게도 “예수”(Jesus)의 히브리어 표현은 “여호수아”(Jehoshuah)로서 그것은 “여호와는 구원이시다”를 의미하는 “여호와—예수아”(Jehovah-yeshua)의 준말이다.

Interestingly, the Hebrew form of “Jesus” is “Jehoshuah,” which is an abbreviated form of “Jehovah-yeshua,” meaning “Jehovah is salvation.”

64. 이 나라에서 여호와의 증인들이 많은 어려움과 역경을 겪었지만, 여호와 하느님께서는 기쁨을 주는 영적 번영을 누리게 하심으로 그들을 축복하고 지원해 오셨습니다.

While Jehovah’s Witnesses here have faced many challenges and much adversity, Jehovah God has sustained and blessed them with delightful spiritual prosperity.

65. 그러나 나는 여호와 하느님과의 관계를 통해 모든 시련을 인내할 수 있는 힘을 얻었습니다.—고린도 둘째 1:8; 빌립보 4:13.

But my relationship with Jehovah God strengthened me to endure every trial.—2 Corinthians 1:8; Philippians 4:13.

66. 하지만 이 목적의 성취를 잠시 보류해서 사탄에게, 모든 사람을 여호와 하느님으로부터 돌아서게 만들 수 있다는 그의 도전을 증명할 기회를 준 것이다.

Fulfillment of that purpose has been held in abeyance to let Satan attempt to prove his challenge that he could turn all people away from Jehovah God.

67. 이 기록은 하느님을 믿는다고 주장하든 그렇지 않든 간에 모든 사람이 인류의 창조주이신 여호와 하느님께 책임을 져야 함을 명확히 보여 준다.

This record clearly demonstrates that all people are accountable to mankind’s Creator, Jehovah God, whether they profess to believe in him or not.

68. 일단 물이 빠지자, 한 이웃 사람이 조롱하는 투로 이렇게 말하였습니다. “여호와 하느님한테 부탁한 다음, 그분이 도와 주시나 한번 기다려 보지 그러세요?”

Once the flood abated, a neighbor asked mockingly: “Why don’t you call on your God, Jehovah, and see whether he helps you?”

69. 그러나 그 두가지 경우에 논쟁점은 동일하였읍니다. 즉, 하나님의 율법과 금지 조항에 대한 인간 피조물의 절대 순종을 요구하는 여호와 하나님의 주권의 정당성이었읍니다.

In both cases, however, the point in dispute was the same, namely, the rightful sovereignty of Jehovah God, which requires absolute obedience of human creatures to God’s laws and prohibitions.

70. 이 예언적 장면의 성취로, 인간 예수께서는 우리의 죄를 위한 하나의 영속적인 희생으로서 자기의 생명을 바치기 전에 여호와 하느님께 절대적인 충절을 고수하셨습니다.

In fulfillment of this prophetic picture, the man Jesus kept absolute integrity to Jehovah God before offering his life as the one lasting sacrifice for our sins.

71. (마태 26:64) 따라서 다니엘의 환상에서, 사람의 눈에 보이지 않게 오시는 분, 여호와 하느님에게 나아가시는 분은 부활되어 영광스럽게 되신 예수 그리스도이십니다.

(Matthew 26:64) So in Daniel’s vision, the one coming, invisible to human eyes, and gaining access to Jehovah God was the resurrected, glorified Jesus Christ.

72. 그리고 그들은 하늘 궁정에 계신 여호와 앞에 있는 영화로운 곳에 합당한 자들로서 의롭다는 판결을 받았음을 의미하는, “흰 겉옷을 입”고 있습니다.

And they are “dressed in white outer garments,” signifying that they have been adjudged righteous, worthy of an honored place before Jehovah in that heavenly court.

73. 여호와 하나님 및 그분의 독생자와 맺는 벗관계의 서열은 어떠하며, 우리가 상징적으로 “간음하는 여자들”로 분류되지 않기 위해서는 어떠한 행로를 추구해야 합니까?

How does friendship with Jehovah God and his only-begotten Son rank, and what course must we pursue in order not to be classified figuratively as “adulteresses”?

74. 여호와 하나님께서 강제로 자기를 섬기도록 하시지 않는 것과 같이, 어느 누구도 그의 대적 ‘사단’ 마귀의 편에 머물러 있도록 그에게 강제를 쓰시지 않습니다.

Just as Jehovah God has not forced anyone to serve him, so he has never compelled anyone to remain on the side of his adversary, Satan the Devil.

75. + 25 그것들을 그들의 손에서 받아다가 제단 위, 번제물 위에서 살라 여호와 앞에 평온하게 하는 향기로 연기를 올려야 한다. + 이것은 여호와를 위한 화제물이다. +

* 25 He then lit up the lamps+ before Jehovah, just as Jehovah had commanded Moses.

76. 다른 군기지로 전임됨에 따라 사람들이 회중을 들락날락하면서 계속 뒤섞이는 일이 있었지만, 문자적으로 수천 명이 집회에 참석하였고 수백 명이 여호와 편에 서도록 도움을 받았습니다.

Though there was a constant shuffling of people in and out of the congregation, as assignments to other military bases were made, literally thousands of people have attended the meetings and hundreds have been helped to take their stand for Jehovah.

77. 헤아릴 수 없이 긴 세월 동안 그 거대한 하늘의 군대가 계속 질서 있고 바쁘게 일하도록 하실 수 있는 분이 여호와 외에 누가 있겠습니까?

Who else but Jehovah could keep such a vast heavenly army organized and busy over aeons of time?

78. 우주에서 가장 높은 분이신, 심지어 가장 작은 범죄까지도 샅샅이 아시는 여호와 하나님께서는 악인들을 보응하기 위한 기초로서 완전하고도 정확한 범죄 도표를 만들 수 있으시다.

Jehovah God, the highest personage in the universe, without whose knowledge not even the smallest crime could take place, is capable of making a completely accurate tabulation of crimes as a basis for settling accounts with wrongdoers.

79. 여호와 하나님께서는, 위의 말씀을 들은 것으로 보이는 뱀의 배후에 있는 실제 세력이, “마귀라고도 하고 ‘사단’이라고도” 불리게 된 보이지 않는 영물임을 점진적으로 밝혀 주셨다.

Gradually, Jehovah God revealed that the real power behind the serpent, who seemingly was addressed in the above words, was an invisible spirit creature who came to be “called Devil and Satan.”

80. 현재로서는 확실한 발음을 알아낼 수 없으므로 한국어로 잘 알려진 “여호와”(영어로는 “Jehovah”)라는 형태를 버리고 달리 제안된 발음을 택해야 할 이유는 없어 보인다.

Since certainty of pronunciation is not now attainable, there seems to be no reason for abandoning in English the well-known form “Jehovah” in favor of some other suggested pronunciation.
