1. Illness may be complicated by haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) or thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP).

2. 14 The high rate of H pylori ammonia production in uraemic patients should accentuate any ammonia induced effects.

3. Of the nine H pylori negative uraemic patients, two had oesophagitis and one had scattered petechiae in stomach and duodenum.

4. The values were even higher in corresponding patients with uraemic pericarditis, but, — taking into account their relation to the urea —, they were not elevated in acute renal failure.
