1. Batholithic residua likely to be amphibole rich, relatively feldspar poor, and to have modest amounts of garnet, are consistent with high pressure (>10 kbar) melting experiments of a basaltic source (e.g., Rapp et al., 1991; Wolf and Wyllie, 1993, 1994)
