1. In severe, acute passive hyperemia the necroses and disturbances in enzymes run parallel.

2. Necroses of an organ and turpentine abscesses infected by bacteria resulted in severe amyloidosis in 59% of the cases.

3. This is demonstrated by contrasting 1,473 operations of the upper abdomen without prophylaxis and with nine lethal necroses of the pancreas and 2,111 comparable interventions with inhibitor prophylaxis, when only two cases of necroses of the pancreas were observed post-mortem in patients who had died from other complications.

4. We found secondary lesions, consisting of anaemic and haemorrhagic necroses, in all sections of the brain, similar to those observed in the earlier investigation.

5. According to their frequency, they appear to correlate with certain diseases (table 3), but none of the changes are specific for a certain disease: Perinuclear vacuoles, acidophilic fibers and acidophilic necroses very often exist with pulmonary diseases, with general infections and erythroblastosis.

The nodular neoplasms of large size (chickenegg), the morphology of which is described in detail, are polymorphic sarcomas with spindle-like and round cell formations as well as with monstrous giant cells and distinct mitotic figures The formation of capsules and the simultaneous rapid growth of the tumor account for the prolonged regressive alterations; numerous anaemic necroses are present.

7. The angiomatous tumor, although similarly generalized, is malignant. In addition, there is a disturbance of the fat metabolism, as evidenced by fatty degeneration of the tumor, liver, and kidneys, and a striking atherosclerosis of the renal and splenic arteries. Finally, in the two cases presented, the serum proteins were characteristically those for malignant tumors with secondary changes (necroses and degeneration — Wuhrmann).
