1. During the early part of the summer, the warship continued her training schedule, this time off the New England coast near Narragansett Bay.

2. In 1958, Hazelwood began extensive testing of helicopters for antisubmarine warfare both in Narragansett Bay and out of the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in Maryland.

3. After availability at Boston, Vicksburg operated in Narragansett Bay, Block Island Sound, and Long Island Sound, serving as a pre-commissioning training vessel for crews of large combatant warships from 5–15 December.
