1. Monmouthshire County assumed control of Monmouth for policing in 1881, and Monmouth eliminated its own police force.

2. Monmouthshire merged with Newport Borough to form the Gwent Constabulary; Cardiff, Merthyr, Swansea and Glamorgan County forces were incorporated into the new South Wales Constabulary and the neighbouring Mid Wales Constabulary became part of the new Dyfed-Powys force.
