1. Both the adz and the drawknife must be kept razor sharp.

2. Enhancing the rustic charm of the item under construction and acting as companion to the adz is another indispensable tool, the drawknife.

3. A special kind of woodworking is the manufacture of barrels (cooperage), which employs modified forms of hatchet, adze, drawknife and plane to form the curved, tapered staves and the circular bottom and lid.

4. In my work I use the tools (drawknife, shaving horse, ax, froe, hornbeam maul, knife) and methods (hand-splitting, pounding, hand-scraping, carving, green-bending) of the Maine woodsmen, Shakers, and Native American Basketmakers.
