1. The load combinations in ASCE Standard 7 for load and resistance factor design (LRFD) and for allowable stress design (ASD) differ in their treatment of Counteracting loads, where the permanent gravity load (dead load) stabilizes the structural system against the effect of uplift or lateral loads.

2. Allowable shearing stresses for shear walls should be taken as the sum of the Allowable shear stress given in Table 11.5 or 11.6 and one-fifth the average compressive stress produced by dead load at the level being analyzed, but not more than the maximum values listed in these tables.

3. When designing Adhered masonry veneer systems over continuous insulation, some of the more challenging fastener designs are when Adhered veneer system loads are over insulation that is 36-mm (1 1⁄2-in.) thick or greater and the veneer system dead load is in the range of 1.2 kPa (25 psf).
