Cardioplegia by KCit would be preferable to cardiac arrest by KCl because of the smaller changes in the metabolic state during anaerobiosis; however, because of morphologic alterations, disturbances of heart rhythm, and a considerable disturbance of the recovery of myocardial metabolism it is not recommended for clinical use.
