1. Extensive examinations revealed chronic mercury poisoning (acrodynia or Feer’s disease) as the underlying cause.

2. These are profuse perspiration, which is to be found in acrodynia and secondly the pronounced pinkish color of the fingers and toes.

3. Acrodynia is a rare disorder but is associated with a specific combination of symptoms and should thus be considered in all patients with the respective complaints.

4. "Pink disease" or acrodynia has been reported most frequently in children treated with teething powders that contained calomel (mercury) or in children who inhaled mercury vapour, such as from broken thermometers.
