1. In a simple horizontal loom a flat “shed stick” was placed across the warp under alternate warp threads, and by turning it on edge, one “shed” was made, through which the woof thread was passed in one direction.

단순한 구조로 된 수평식 베틀의 경우, 날실을 가로질러 납작한 “북길 막대”를 놓았는데, 날실들이 위아래로 하나씩 번갈아 가며 놓이게 하였다. 그 막대를 모로 세우면 하나의 “북길”이 만들어졌는데, 이 공간을 통해서 씨실을 한쪽 방향으로 통과시켰다.
