While the attraction of Arctic oil and gas reserves, unexploited marine living resources and shorter shipping routes connecting the Pacific and the Atlantic Oceans is undeniable, the adversarial impact of melting Arctic Ice cap on the indigenous communities, the marine ecosystems and aggravation of global warming is equally undeniable.

यद्यपि आर्कटिक आयल एवं गैस भंडारों, समुद्री सजीव संसाधनों जिनका दोहन नहीं किया गया है तथा प्रशांत एवं अटलांटिक महासागरों को जोड़ने वाले छोटे पोत परिवहन मार्ग आदि के आकर्षण से इन्कार नहीं किया जा सकता है, फिर भी देशज समुदायों, समुद्री पारिस्थितिकी तंत्र तथा वैश्विक तापन में वृद्धि पर पिघलते आर्कटिक आइस कैप के प्रतिकूल प्रभावों से भी इंकार नहीं किया जा सकता है।
