1. Lucaris answers: “We are taught by the Divine and Sacred Scriptures, which say plainly, ‘Thou shalt not make to thyself an idol, or a likeness of anything that is in the heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath; thou shalt not adore them, nor shalt thou worship them; [Exodus 20:4, 5]’ since we ought to worship, not the creature, but only the Creator and Maker of the heaven and of the earth, and Him only to adore. . . .

पवित्र शास्त्र साफ-साफ बताता है कि ‘तू अपने लिए कोई मूर्ति गढ़कर न बनाना, अथवा न किसी की प्रतिमा बनाना जो ऊपर आकाश में, या नीचे धरती पर है। न तो तू उन को दण्डवत् करना और न ही उनकी उपासना करना; [निर्गमन 20:4, 5]’ हमें मूर्तियों से इसलिए दूर रहना चाहिए क्योंकि हमें सिर्फ स्वर्ग और पृथ्वी के सृष्टिकर्ता और बनानेवाले की उपासना करनी चाहिए और उसी को दण्डवत् करना चाहिए, उसकी सृष्टि को नहीं।

2. 17 But Ammon stood forth and said unto him: Behold, thou shalt not slay thy son; nevertheless, it were abetter that he should fall than thee, for behold, he has brepented of his sins; but if thou shouldst fall at this time, in thine anger, thy soul could not be saved.

17 परन्तु अम्मोन आगे खड़ा हो गया और उससे कहा: देखो, तुम्हें अपने बेटे को नहीं मारना चाहिए; फिर भी, यह अच्छा है कि तुम्हारे गिरने की बजाय वह गिरे, क्योंकि देखो, उसने अपने पापों का पश्चाताप कर लिया है; परन्तु अपने क्रोध में इस समय यदि तुम गिर जाते हो तो तुम्हारी आत्मा को नहीं बचाया जा सकता है ।
