6. (a) Former US President Jimmy Carter, during his recent visit to India on October 26 – November 3, 2006, is reported in the media to have said that India should accede to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

(क) ऐसा समाचार है कि 26 अक्तूबर से 3 नवंबर, 2006 तक अपनी हाल की भारत यात्रा के दौरान अमरीका के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति श्री जिमी कार्टर ने मीडिया से कहा कि भारत को नाभिकीय अप्रसार संधि को स्वीकार कर लेना चाहिए ।

Question (Mr. Lachlan Carmichael, AFP News Agency): I wanted to ask Madam Secretary and Mr. Minister about the commitment that Madam Secretary made to one of the top Congressmen in the US to go to the NSG and ask the NSG to amend the rules demanding a ban on the transfer of reprocessing and enrichment technology to countries such as India that have not signed the NPT.
