Il déclare que l’Union européenne est unie dans son engagement collectif en faveur de l’objectif d’un monde exempt de toute menace de mines antipersonnel.

79. Agam (Malaysia), speaking on agenda items 119 (b) and 119 (c), said that the results of the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance, held in Durban from 31 August to 7 September 2001, were on the whole disappointing, even though common ground had emerged on some issues, in particular the recognition that slavery was a crime against humanity and that the victims of historical injustices continued to suffer its consequences — poverty, underdevelopment and social exclusion.

Agam (Malaisie), intervenant au titre des points 119 b) et e) de l’ordre du jour, estime que les résultats de la Conférence mondiale contre le racisme, la discrimination raciale, la xénophobie et l’intolérance qui y est associée, tenue à Durban du 31 août au 7 septembre 2001, sont généralement décevants même si une unité de vues s’est dégagée sur certaines questions, notamment sur la reconnaissance du fait que l’esclavage constitue un crime contre l’humanité et que les victimes des injustices de l’histoire continuent d’en subir les conséquences – pauvreté, sous-développement et exclusion sociale.

For my part, I will be participating directly in speaking engagements in more than # events this month, including a gala hosted by the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers in honour of black judges in Canada; a reception hosted by the High Commission for South Africa in recognition of the tenth anniversary of Mr. Nelson Mandela's walk from prison on February #, #; and a reception with poet-author and playwright George Elliot Clarke, whose critically acclaimed play Whylah Falls will be performed at the National Arts Centre at the end of the month

Nelson Mandela, le # février #, ainsi que d'une réception à laquelle participera le poéte et dramaturge George Elliot Clarke, dont la piéce Whylah Falls, acclamée par la critique, sera donnée au Centre national des arts à la fin du mois
