1. Participatory democracy among nations must be erected on the twin pillars of mutual respect and trust.

La démocratie participative entre les nations doit être érigée sur les piliers jumeaux que sont le respect et la confiance mutuels.

2. Mr Jean-Luc Dehaene, Vice-President of the European Convention and Mr Roger Briesch, President of the EESC aggiornamento is in the hands of the 25 governments of the future broad-based Union, it is however up to the EESC and to all its members by their daily action and their commitment to recall that the Committee fulfils a genuine need for participatory democracy at European level.

Respectivement, M. Jean-Luc Dehaene, vice-président de la Convention européenne, et M. Roger Briesch, président du CESE gouvernements de la future Union élargie, il revient toutefois au CESE et à tous ses membres par leur action et leur engagement quotidiens de rappeler que le Comité répond à un véritable besoin de démocratie participative au niveau européen.
