1. The sensitivity perimeters as defined for the alluvial layers should be applied to the karstic and non-karstic zones surrounding underground habitats which warrant protection or are endangered.

Les périmètres de sensibilité tels qu’ils sont définis pour les nappes alluviales sont à appliquer aux zones karstiques et non karstiques renfermant des habitats souterrains dignes d’être protégés ou en danger.

2. The accumulated sediments in the karstic caverns derive from the periodic inwashing of the insoluble residues built up on the surface of erosion, were indurated after the sealing of the karstic openings with calcareous muds during the Ordovician transgression, and were faulted with their cover when the Saguenay graben formed.

Les sédiments accumulés dans les cavernes karstiques proviennent du lessivage périodique des résidus d'altération météoritique concentrés à la surface d'érosion, se sont indurés après que la transgression ordovicienne eut recouvert les ouvertures karstiques de boues calcaires, et ont été faillés avec leur couverture lors de la formation du graben du Saguenay.

3. As an explanation of this unusual phenomenon, a theory is proposed, whereby the drilling mud has accumulated within the overlying and cooler highly porous and permeable karstic rocks during the drilling and migrates downward.

Pour expliquer ce phénomène peu commun, une théorie est proposée, selon laquelle la boue de forage se serait accumulée dans les niveaux supérieurs de roches karstiques très poreuses et perméables au moment du forage, avant de migrer en profondeur.

4. In (1), particular attention is paid to the geotechnical properties of karstic rocks and also of associated material, loose and coherent, grouting and watertightening, the safety measures required because of the influence of foundation works on underground water and slope stablity.

En (1), on fait état spécialement des qualités géotechniques des roches karstiques mais aussi des matériaux associés, meubles et cohérents, des injections et imperméabilisations, des précautions à prendre compte tenu des conséquences des travaux de fondation sur les eaux souterraines et la stabilité des terrains.
