1. The humanistic and scientific cultures cannot be separated; on the contrary, they are the two sides of the same coin: we are once again reminded of this by the Czech Republic, the homeland of great writers such as Kafka and of the Abbot Mendel, a pioneer of modern genetics.

La culture humaniste et la culture scientifique ne peuvent pas être séparées, au contraire, elles sont les deux faces d'une même médaille: c'est ce que nous rappelle encore une fois la terre tchèque, patrie de grands écrivains comme Kafka, et de l'abbé Mendel, pionnier de la génétique moderne.
