1. At that time, the abbot of the Benedictine abbey of Maroilles, Frederick d’Yve (born in Bavai) became councilor of state and played a key role as intermediary in negotiations between the warring parties in the Netherlands : the representatives of the Protestants led by the Prince of Orange; and the representatives of the Catholic King Philip II of Spain.

À cette époque, le père abbé de l’abbaye bénédictine de Maroilles, Frédéric d’Yve (originaire de Bavai) devenu conseiller d’État, joua un rôle primordial en tant qu’intermédiaire dans les négociations entre les belligérants dans les Pays-Bas : entre d’une part les représentants des protestants menés par le prince d’Orange, vis-à-vis d’autre part des représentants catholiques du roi Philippe II d’Espagne.
