1. In the early 17th century Adherence to the Benedictine rule grew lax and abbess Marguerite de Quibly applied severe reform in 1620 before instituting the Benedictine Order in the Monastery of Our Lady of Bourbon with 5 Sisters of the Desert.

L'observance fut négligée et l’abbesse Marguerite de Quibly appliqua une sévère réforme en 1620 avant d'instituer l'ordre bénédictin dans le Monastère Notre-Dame de Bourbon avec 5 religieuses de la Deserte.

À cette époque, le père abbé de l’abbaye bénédictine de Maroilles, Frédéric d’Yve (originaire de Bavai) devenu conseiller d’État, joua un rôle primordial en tant qu’intermédiaire dans les négociations entre les belligérants dans les Pays-Bas : entre d’une part les représentants des protestants menés par le prince d’Orange, vis-à-vis d’autre part des représentants catholiques du roi Philippe II d’Espagne.
