3. Ortisei, St. Cristina and Selva Gardena are the three villages of Val Gardena, and about 8 kilometers from each other. The dominating feature of Val Gardena is the Sassolungo mountain, with its 3,181 meter high peak, which was first scaled in 1868 by the Viennese alpinist Paul Grohmann.
