1. Background: In up to 73% of ophthalmia neonatorum, Chlamydia trachomatis is the causative agents.

Fragestellung: Chlamydia trachomatis ist in bis zu 73% der Fälle Ursache einer Neugeborenenkonjunktivitis.

2. The aim of this study was to determine the bacterial spectrum of ophthalmia neonatorum with special regard to chlamydia and their diagnostic tests.

Ziel der Studie war die Bestimmung des Keimspektrums bei Neugeborenenkonjunktivitis mit besonderer Berücksichtigung von Chlamydien und deren Nachweismethoden.

3. Materials and methods: We compared the results of 15 newborn with ophthalmia neonatorum. For the diagnosis we used a rapid diagnostic test, Immunofluorescent Antibody Staining and Culture on McCoy cells.

Patienten und Methode: Bei 15 Neugeborenen mit Ophthalmia neonatorum wurden die Ergebenisse von einem Chlamydienschnelltest, Immunfluoreszenzantikörpertest und Chlamydienkultur verglichen.
