1. The humanistic and scientific cultures cannot be separated; on the contrary, they are the two sides of the same coin: we are once again reminded of this by the Czech Republic, the homeland of great writers such as Kafka and of the Abbot Mendel, a pioneer of modern genetics.

Die humanistische und die wissenschaftliche Kultur können nicht getrennt werden, ja sie sind die zwei Seiten ein und derselben Medaille: Daran erinnert uns einmal mehr das tschechische Land, die Heimat großer Schriftsteller wie Kafka und des Abts Mendel, Vorreiter der modernen Genetik.
