1. During the Vigil, I entrusted to them with great affection that "At the dawn of the third millennium I see in you the "sentinels'", and the following day, in the homily of the closing Mass, I told them that if they were what they should be, they "would set the whole world ablaze!".

Während der Vigil habe ich ihnen in tiefer Zuneigung anvertraut: »Da das dritte Jahrtausend heraufdämmert, sehe ich in euch die ›Wächter auf den Morgen‹«, und am Tag danach sagte ich ihnen in meiner Predigt bei der Abschlußmesse: »Wenn ihr seid, was ihr sein sollt, dann werdet ihr Feuer auf der ganzen Erde entzünden.«
