1. French Guiana, situated in the north-east of South America, between Suriname and Brazil, 7 500 km from metropolitan France, is the largest and most densely wooded French department: 94% of its 84 000 km area is covered by Amazonian forest.

2. The derogation set out in Article 1 shall be limited to rum as defined in point 1(f) of Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 110/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council ( 1 ) produced in Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique and Réunion from sugar cane harvested at the place of manufacture, having a content of volatile substances other than ethyl and methyl alcohol equal to or exceeding 225 grams per hectolitre of pure alcohol and an alcoholic strength by volume of 40° or more.

Die Abweichung nach Artikel 1 gilt nur für Rum im Sinne von Anhang II Nummer 1 Buchstabe f der Verordnung (EG) Nr. 110/2008 des Europäischen Parlaments und des Rates ( 1 ), der in Guadeloupe, Französisch-Guayana, Martinique oder Réunion aus am Herstellungsort geerntetem Zuckerrohr hergestellt wird und einen Gehalt an anderen flüchtigen Bestandteilen als Ethylalkohol und Methanol von mindestens 225 g je Hektoliter reinen Alkohol sowie einen Alkoholgehalt von mindestens 40 % vol aufweist.
