2. Die Flächen nördlich und südlich des Strandwalls waren zunächst sumpfig und füllten sich im Nutzungszeitraum des Heiligtums mit Hochflutlehmen. Diese waren im Sommerhalbjahr gut begehbar.

The areas to the north and south of the barrier beach were originally marshy but filled up with flood plain alluvium during the period in which the sanctuary was used; it was possible to walk across them in the dry months.
