Monophenole wirken schwach stimulierend auf die Bildung von Wurzeln, Polyphenole fördern die Wurzelbildung stark, Methylendioxyzimtsäure (Blockierung beider phenolischer Hydroxylgruppen) hemmt die Wurzelbildung vollständig, regt jedoch im Gegensatz zu den untersuchten Mono- und Polyphenolen die Indol-3-essigsäure-Wirkung auf das Gewebewachstum an.

Methylenedioxycinnamic acid (where both phenolic hydroxy groups are masked) inhibits root formation completely but accentuates the effect of indole acetic acid on tissue growth in contrast to the mono- and polyphenols investigated.
