1. Acute intraabdominal diseases, sepsis, trauma, mechanical ventilation, drugs or lack of enteral feeding may lead to the clinical picture of mechanical or paralytic ileus or to complete gut failure.

Veränderungen der elektromechanischen Charakteristika des Kolons wurden beim „irritable bowel syndrome“, der bakteriellen Überwucherung des Dünndarms, der chronischen Obstipation, der intestinalen idiopathischen Pseudoobstruktion, welche wahrscheinlich mit dem Krankheitsbild des adynamen Ileus identisch ist, aufgedeckt.
